I perform in a series of special one-off church concerts with my great friends and favourite local musicians Thursday’s Band. There’s something about the atmosphere and acoustics of a church that seems to particularly suit our instrumentation and songs. To date we’ve played in St George’s, Anstey, Herts, St Peter’s, Felsham, Suffolk, St Mary the Virgin in Stotfold, Herts, St John the Evangelist in Cambridge and St Mary’s, Ware – and we’re definitely hoping to find more. So if you know a church that likes something different and could do with a little help with the restoration fund…
‘Rarely has this building echoed to such wonderful music. Great music, first class musicians, and super songs. A thoroughly enjoyable evening’. (David Williams, Church Warden, Felsham)
‘Many people who would not normally have been attracted to a concert in church came along and they really loved what they saw and heard. It went down a storm! Churches throughout the land, I urge you to embrace something just that little bit different – you won’t regret it!’ (Ali Cossor, Organist and Parochial Council Secretary, Anstey)
‘Our church, St Mary’s, Stotfold, booked John Meed and The Thursday’s Band for a Sunday afternoon concert and they went down so well with the local audience that they request them back again. Folk and fun for two hours was just not enough.‘ (Reverend Jane Wheatley, Stotfold)
Our next church concert will be on Saturday September 7th 2024 in St George’s Church, Anstey, Buntingford SG9 0BY. I’ll be joined on stage by Matt Kelly on violin and viola, Lucinda Fudge on viola and Rhys Wilson on guitar. The music will start at 7.30pm and end by 10.
